My partner and I did the Old Delhi private tour with Salaam Baalak Trust, and it was one of the highlights of our trip. Our guide, Junaid, was warm, knowledgeable, and tailored the tour around what we were interested in—culture, history, shopping, and plenty of amazing food. He even spent extra time with us, which we really appreciated.
Walking through the lanes of Old Delhi, trying local dishes, and exploring the markets with his insights made the whole experience feel special. We also visited one of the Trust’s shelters, which was moving to see and made it clear how meaningful their work is.
Highly recommend this tour for both the experience and the chance to support a great organization.
Met our guide who turned up very late, who then showed us the Delhi Train Station & the different offices of Salaam Baalak Trust. He met us at 10.15am & left us at 11.15am. I thought we would have been talking to different street kids about their experiences. It felt like a rush for your money. Not impressed
I greatly enjoyed the food tour offered by Salaam Baalak Trust! Our guide was very knowledgeable and showed us many good places to eat, and some to avoid! He was able to give us the context of the food we ate and showed us how to eat like a local. We also learned of the mission of Salaam Baalak, to help rescue children from the streets, teach them skills, and help them get back to their families, or into a safe environment where they can be self sufficient. Our guide himself was a product of this program! I would recommend this company and tour to anyone who is visiting Delhi!
We did the street walk with Ajay and Kajal (the trainee). Ajay's English was great, and he had so much energy and passion for what the trust is doing for the kids of Delhi and how it helped him. The walk is safe and professional, and thoroughly recommended to get an insight into a part of Delhi that tourists would not otherwise see.
One of the most authentic experiences:
From our first contact with our StreetConnections guide Lalit we had such a great experience. Booking over the phone was easy, and Lalit was extremely flexible with us, accommodating a late change of the day of the booking all in his stride.
The walk itself was one of our best experiences in India. He stressed over the phone that we wouldn't be visiting any of the main tourist sites, which proved to be 100% accurate. You can do all that with a guide book - this walk takes you places you would never find otherwise.
To be taken through the backstreets of Old Delhi by someone who has taken himself from being a wily street kid (at the age of 5) to a final year university student was all the more poignant. Lalit was so generous with his time and his personal story, all the while flashing that charming smile and making plenty of jokes along the way.
If you want to see the backstreets, plus so much more that others have described here, then do yourself a favour and book a tour with these guys - 5 stars!
